Odds + Ends

I woke up this morning in the mood for some color and a little pattern matching. I love mixing and matching subtle details with bolder pieces — my checked grey and white oxford, hot pink and orange sweater and thin leopard belt felt like the perfect marriage of color and pattern. Paired with faux suede shorts and perforated leather flats, the outfit falls somewhere between quirky and classic. Here is the resulting look:

I don’t know what it is with my tendency to pick photos of myself where I’m not looking directly at the camera — I think in the case of these shots, my eyes were a bit sleepy. You guys can just start calling me “Maddie: the Eyeless Wonder”, maybe I can make it my trademark?

I also wanted to post the revised version of the website I wrote about a couple weeks ago. Long story short, my Experience Design professor decided that we needed to spend more time on our sites to refine the designs and work on the coding end. Here is the new site I created, I would love to get some feedback on it. I will probably try to revisit the site in a couple of weeks to fine tune some elements/improve readability, but for now I am pretty sick of looking at it, which usually happens with most projects I really delve into. Tonight I hope to bake something new, a beloved past time which has fallen by the wayside since school started. Looking forward to sharing this adventure with you guys tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Weekend Recap : Life’s Little Sweet Things

This weekend was a blur of plans with little time set aside to go off and do my own thing. I’ve noticed that as I get further into this jam packed semester, it’s important to reflect on life’s little sweet things.

On Friday night, I went to dinner with two fabulous friends, Kelsey and Sam. We got burgers at a neighborhood favorite, Chef Geoff’s, then took the scenic route to Something Sweet, an ice cream shop near our apartments. We arrived at Something Sweet about two minutes after closing time, but the guy working let us in anyway and we were able to satisfy our fro-yo cravings. As we enjoyed the gorgeous night outside the shop, the guy behind the counter came out and offered us two dozen free cupcakes. If that’s not a good omen, I don’t know what is. The night was so simple and sweet, but it was exactly what I needed after such a hectic week.

Looking forward to the bright things on my horizon including my first CapFABB meet up, a ticket to Capital Food Fight, a trip to Mexico and many more fall days filled with friends, laughter and adventures.

Fashion Friday: Girly Grunge

Meet Haley Bowman

Last week I was on campus getting some work done and spotted Haley from across the room. I instantly loved the top knot, floral dress, denim vest and bright red booties combo she was rocking. Although I had never met Haley before, I threw caution to the wind and asked if I could feature her in my next column. Luckily, she accepted my offer and behold a fall look that is equal parts edgy and sweet:

Some of my favorite trends Haley’s sporting include her dip dyed tresses, multi-colored skull bracelet, Jeffrey Campbell flatform sneakers and her leather and pink pleated dress.

To get the look, check out one of Haley’s favorite shopping spots.

On another note, HAPPY FRIDAY. Honestly, the weekend has never felt so good. I plan to catch up on some much needed sleep, see some friends and enjoy the amazing fall weather. What are you guys doing? Have a fun and fabulous weekend, more adventures to come.
